What Should You Do If Your Home Loan Got Rejected
28 Jan
Not all home loan applications are approved. In fact, with an unstable economy, mortgage lenders do not really take big risks as of late, evidenced by the number of mortgage applications that have been rejected recently. But just because your loan got rejected doesn’t mean you are already in the losing end. It is likely that the mortgage lender will offer you a different home loan program (that will suit your financial stance) or make a better counter offer. It is also possible that the lender will approve your loan but with certain conditions that must be satisfied before the closing.
In case, your home loan application got rejected, here is what you should do:
- Ask the lender why your loan got denied. You certainly would want to know what went wrong with your mortgage application. And this is very much understandable. Normally, the lender will explain in writing why your application got turned down. You will receive a notice from the lender stating the reason for the loan denial. Typical reasons why mortgage loans are denied include bad credit history, insufficient funds, or excessive debts.
- Try requesting the lender to review your application for the second time. Some lenders offer second review of loans so it won’t hurt to ask for a second review if available. You can also try applying to other mortgage lenders; who knows, this time, your loan might actually be approved.
- Consider correcting the reasons why your loan got denied. If your loan got turned down because of a bad credit rating, then do everything possible to improve it. Pay off existing debts and once they are cleared you can try applying for the loan again.
- Continue to shop around. Just because one mortgage lender turned you down doesn’t mean you have to get discouraged already. As they say, there are many fishes in the sea. You can always try applying to other banks or private lenders since they set varying criteria for mortgage approval. Knowing that, you will surely find a lender that will be willing to approve your loan.
